What is a Dojo?
The word Dojo is a Japanese word that means "place of enlightenment". It also refers to a place of training. Our dojo consist of a lobby, 2 dressing rooms, a bathroom, and a 1,200 sq. ft. mat area. The dojo is a place where you can leave the outside world for a while, and focus on your personal development. The dojo is more than just a training hall! It's a special place to the people who train here, and we all take part in the dojo's maintenance and upkeep.
The picture below shows the area at the head of the dojo. It is called the Shomen. The wooden structure is called the Kamiza. It is a focal point in most dojo, and usually displays a picture of the founder or calligraphy, some form of natural decoration (like flowers), and a weapons display.
